"Faithfulness is our Shield."
Faith is central to our mission at St. Michael’s School. Students participate in prayer each day, and attend services weekly. All students attend religion classes. Students do not need to be Catholic to attend St. Michael’s, but are expected to be respectful of our traditions. In second grade Catholic students prepare for the sacraments of Penance and Communion. In eighth grade they prepare for Confirmation.
Students of any age can receive baptism if they have not already been baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. If they are in third grade or lower I need to meet with the parents to talk about baptism and the requirements for a sponsor. This usually takes about half an hour.
For those in third grade or lower already baptized in a Christian denomination who want to be received into the Catholic Church I will need a copy of their baptismal information and a statement from a parent saying it is acceptable to them that the child be received into the Catholic Church.
Children in fourth grade or above, since they have been attending religion class as part of our regular curriculum, can be baptized and receive first Holy Communion if they wish. They will have to sit down with me individually so I can make sure they understand what the beliefs of Catholicism are, and they will need a Catholic sponsor. For those who to receive the sacraments I can provide information on the requirements for a sponsor.
