St. Michael's School is composed of a pre-K and Kindergarten program, the elementary grades which encompass grades 1-5, and the middle school which comprises grades 6-8.
The schedules vary slightly throughout the day for each of these divisions. All students meet in a
general assembly each morning when they get off the bus.
Opening prayers, daily reading, announcements, and the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag are accomplished during this time. All students assemble again at the end of the instructional day for closing prayers and dismissal as car riders or to the buses.
There is a scheduled morning snack and recess period for grades pre-K to 5. The middle grades have a short snack break in the morning. A combined lunch and recess period occurs midday for 45 minutes.
The current enrollment gives SMS an average student to teacher ratio of about 15:1 in grades 1-8.
Pre-K and Kindergarten have full time aides in addition to the full time teacher. Special subjects include Physical Education, Art, Music, Information Technology, and Spanish. All grades from K to 8 have one instructional period per week in each, with these additions: 8th graders have five periods per week of Spanish and 5th graders have two periods per week of InformationTechnology.
There are also pullouts during the year for special activities related to some special subjects. For instance there will be additional music classes in preparation for performances or extra PE classes to prepare for the special events. Band classes are held one morning per week.
