"Faithfulness is our Shield."
Family and Friends of St. Michael's:
I am honored and humbled to serve as the new principal of St. Michael's School. Conversations with the SMS team and families have pullulated privileged insights into the core beliefs and values that underlie St. Michael's School and community. With a legacy that spans over one hundred years of gifting educational excellence, it is with a profound sense of gratitude that I take this journey together with you through the 2022-2023 academic school year.
The story of St. Michael's is deeply interwoven with the chronicle of Jesuit education, a tradition dating back to 1548. Cura personalis (Latin for “care for the whole person”) has long been a cornerstone of Jesuit schools, and it infuses every aspect of our work. In the words of our mission, we want to develop the education of the whole child through word, worship and service.
We nurture the belief that faithfulness has been our shield in times of perplexity and difficulty.
Your faithfulness has indeed shielded our children – allowing generations upon generations to experience the rich culture, outstanding community, and distinct academic rigor that supporting St. Michael's School has afforded.
As we embark upon this new chapter of our story together, I invite you to remain faithful. Remain faithful and sure of our vision. Remain diligent in times of change and transitions. Remain steadfast and unmovable in doubt.
I am reminded of Paul's letter to the Corinthian church in which he wrote – "We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; ...We are more than conquerors." We are St. Michael's.
May we continue to transform and transcend the lives that are entrusted to us for another one hundred years.
Shileta Weems
Principal
